AHK Romania: Pardon laws could affect German investments
The Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry AHK Romania fears that the changes to the Criminal Code, which the Government adopted on Tuesday, will have a negative impact on the Romanian-German economic relations, and send a signal of uncertainty among German investors.
These amendments raise questions about “the will of the new government to continue the uncompromising struggle against corruption,” according to the AHK Romania press release issued on Wednesday.
Limiting the rule of law will have obvious negative effects on the country’s economic development. Romania is in danger of losing its positive image, “hardly regained last year”, according to AHK Romania representatives.
“This is all the more regrettable as Romania thus weakens its position as a stable and reliable investment location, especially in the delicate global political context,” reads the press release.
Justice Minister Florin Iordache announced on Tuesday evening that the Government adopted an emergency ordinance to amend the Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.
