Romania's Alba Iulia launches welcome pack for foreign tourists

19 June 2015

Alba Iulia was the first Romanian city to have a tourism brand, back in 2010. Now, the city continues its touristic promotion by launching the first ‘welcome pack’, a complete set of info materials for the tourists interested in discovering the “city of the Great Union”.

After launching the online tourist platform in Romanian in March, the local authorities are making a step forward now with the English version of the city’s travel guide - Visitalbaiulia.com. The website is a useful tool for foreign tourists who want to visit the Romanian city. It comprises a Top 5 category, as well as details about the public transportation and accommodation facilities registered on Booking.com and Trips Advisor.

For tourists already in the city, the authorities launched the Visit Alba Iulia mobile app, available on Android and iOS. The app can be accessed from smartphones and tablets, and from the two info centers located in Unirii Square and Principia Museum. Moreover, the city will have dedicated Facebook and Twitter accounts.

A tourist guide in Romanian and English will also be launched this month. In the near future, Alba Iulia will also benefit from a mini brochure in English and a customized map while the most important objectives will be marked with flags and information plates in English.

Alba Iulia boasts with one of the largest fortresses in Romania, Alba Carolina, which the municipality renovated using EU funds and money raised from the capital market via bond issues. The fortress also hosts a Roman-Catholic and an Orthodox Church, the Union Museum, as well as a five-star hotel for accommodation.
