US online retailer Amazon has leased 1,400 sqm of offices in the Palas compound in Iasi, developed by local businessman Iulian Dascalu. Amazon Development Center will open its headquarters in September within Palas, according to developer Iulius Group. Amazon's software development center in Romania was opened in Iasi five years ago and the company plans to expand operations in the country and hire more people in Iasi, according to Lucian Vornicu, director of Amazon Development Center Romania. Iulius Group will finalize the two class A office buildings within Palas project this year, while the entire project will be finalized in September next year. The two office buildings cover 5,500 sqm and 7,100 sqm respectively.
