Authorities give up Timisoara-Belgrade highway

22 May 2017

Romania and Serbia have decided to give up the project of connecting Timisoara to Belgrade via a high-speed road, said Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu.

He explained that the Serbian authorities didn’t want to support the project anymore, reports local Digi24.

“The Serbian partners (...) considered that the project was not strategic for Serbians, for Serbia,” Grindeanu said.

The Prime Minister stressed out that the decision to renounce the project was not linked to Romania at all.

The express road should have had 140 kilometers. The feasibility study was approved in October last year and was worth almost EUR 9.5 million. The road should have been built by 2025.
