Bucharest authorities plan to take more measures to solve the traffic problem

The Bucharest authorities are planning to take several measures to solve the traffic problems in Romania's capital.

For example, six park & ride parking lots are to be built at the city's busiest entry points. That way, those who transit the city can leave their personal cars in these parks and take a bus or subway from there to the city. The project is included in the Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility, which will be voted “very soon,” said Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea, reports local Mediafax.

Moreover, the mayor stressed the importance of completing the capital’s ring road, and of ensuring a “civilized” public transport. The Bucharest City Hall plans to buy 500 new buses, 30% of which are electric, and to arrange special lanes for them.

The authorities also want to organize auctions to expand the intelligent traffic management system, which would ease the traffic in Bucharest. In addition, the municipality will soon approve the strategy and energy plan for Bucharest.

Gabriela Firea made these statements at the launching event of the newest edition of Capital Top 300 richest Romanians. The Bucharest mayor ranks first in this year's issue of Capital's Top 50 Successful Women, followed by OMV Petrom CEO Mariana Gheorghe, and the chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Department – Laura Codruta Kovesi. The top five was completed by former gymnast Nadia Comaneci, and tennis player Simona Halep.
