Bucharest mayor wants to donate EUR 3.3 mln for People’s Salvation Cathedral
Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea wants to give RON 15 million (over EUR 3.3 million) from the city’s general budget for the People’s Salvation Cathedral, and another RON 4.5 million (some EUR 1 million) for the Antim Monastery, reports local Mediafax.
This would be done after the Bucharest General Budget would be amended. However, the members of the General Council have to vote the draft project proposed by Firea. They are to discuss the mayor’s proposal during the meeting scheduled for August 11.
Romania’s People’s Salvation Cathedral is located next to the People’s Palace (the Parliament’s Palace), the second-largest building in the world. Its construction started in December 2010, being about 70% completed at the moment. The Cathedral will be about 120 m high and will be able to host some 6,000 people.
Bucharest District 1 mayor Dan Tudorache also wanted to give EUR 2.2 million for the People’s Salvation Cathedral, but the local council postponed the decision.
