Bulgarian PM doesn’t want NATO fleet in the Black Sea

17 June 2016

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov said yesterday that he opposed the idea of creating a common fleet of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine, backed by NATO, to counter Russia’s presence in the Black Sea.

According to Bulgarian newspaper 24 Ceasa, Borisov disapproved the initiative of the Romanian president Klaus Iohannis, whereas Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev initially seemed to support the idea, reports local Economica.net.

“I support NATO and UE, I support Bulgaria’s economic interests, but this line should not be crossed. If Bulgarians think differently, they can replace me with somebody else,” the PM said.

“I want to see yachts, tourists, love and peace in our resorts in the Black Sea, I don’t want frigates to furrow the sea,” he added.
