Central Bank OK's Marinis Stratopoulos as new GM of Banca Romaneasca
Marinis Stratopoulos is the new general manager of Banca Romaneasca, a local lender majority owned by the National Bank of Greece group. His appointment has been cleared by the Romanian Central Bank (BNR).
Stratopoulos will be replacing Andreas Maragkoudakis, who left the helm of the bank in 2009. The interim position was occupied by Crina Cosma, the deputy general manager.
This is not Stratopoulos' first GM position in Romania. He was appointed general manager of Egnatia Bank Romania in 2001, as well as president of the board of administrators until 2004. In January 2005 he was elected deputy general manager of Egnatia Bank responsible for the corporate department of the bank and several subsidiaries, among which the ones in Romania.
Banca Romaneasca runs 146 units in Romania and has been active on the market for the last 17 years. The National Bank of Greece bought the 89 percent share package in the lender in 2003. The other main shareholder in the bank is the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with 10.21 percent of the shares.
