Children’s Day will be a day off in Romania
The Chamber of Deputies passed a draft bill on Tuesday that makes June 1 a legal non-working day in Romania. June 1 is the International Children’s Day.
The Senate voted the bill in mid-September this year. To become effective, the law will also have to be signed by President Klaus Iohannis.
A group of MPs from all political parties submitted a draft bill to the Senate earlier this year to make June 1 a legal day off. In the explanatory memorandum, the MPs said that the parents in Romania needed to spend more time with their children.
Thus, June 1 will be added to the list of other public holidays in Romania, namely January 1 and January 2, January 24 (recently passed by the Chamber of Deputies), the first and second day of Orthodox Easter, May 1, the first and second day of the Pentecost, the Assumption of Mary (August 15), Saint Andrew (November 30), Romania’s National Day (December 1), and the first and second day of Christmas.
