Cluj airport gets permits for expansion and modernization
The “Avram Iancu” International Airport in Cluj-Napoca received the permits to build a platform for aircraft stationing and to modernize the departures terminal, according to an announcement made by the Cluj County Council on Friday.
The next step is the financial assessment of the project and the subsequent organization of a tender.
The airport’s modernization and expansion are needed because passenger traffic has increased nearly a hundred times in the last 20 years, according to the Cluj County Council. The Cluj airport is expected to record a traffic of 2.7-3 million passengers this year, up 25% compared to 2015.
The airlines that operate from the Cluj-Napoca airport will introduce ten new destinations this year. Last year, some 14 new routes were introduced. In total, the Cluj airport will provide 46 domestic and external routes this year.
