First fridge for the poor installed in Bucharest’s District 3
Starting October 1, poor people in Bucharest can take food from the first community fridge installed in the capital. The fridge is located on Foisorului Street in the 3rd District.
Bucharesters can leave food in this fridge for those who need it. However, there are some rules. The donors can’t put raw meat, raw fish, eggs, and cooked food in the fridge. All the products have to be within the validity period.
“Take what you need! Put in the community fridge the food products that you don’t need!” reads the message posted on the fridge.
The initiative belongs to the Bucharest's General Social Assistance Directorate (DGASMB), and 24 such devices are to be installed in all six districts, depending on the first fridge’s success, reports local Gandul.info.
Besides helping the poor, the project also aims to limit food waste.
