Consumption eats three-quarters of average household income in Romania
The average monthly household income in Romania amounted to RON 2, 579 (EUR 585) in the last quarter of 2014.
Expenses reached EUR 575, 72% of which went to consumption. Food and utilities made almost 58% of consumer spending, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
Wages generated over half of the income. Income from social benefits represented a quarter; agriculture income accounted for 3.3%, and income from independent non-agriculture activities amounted to 1%.
In urban areas, household income was 29.1% higher than the rural household income and 10.8% higher than the average household income.
