Euro 2016: PM will attend opening match between Romania and France
With just a few days left until the start of the European Football Championship (Euro 2016) in France, the Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos announced in a Facebook post that he would attend the opening match between Romania and France.
Ciolos will start a visit to Paris on Thursday, June 9, where he will meet with Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The same day, the Prime Minister will also participate in the official opening reception of Romania's participation in Euro 2016.
Friday, June 10, will start with a meeting with the French Prime Minister Manuel Valls. Later the same day, the Romanian Prime Minister will meet the two orphans of the Romanian couple killed in the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris in November 2015.
At 20:00, Dacian Ciolos and French President Francois Hollande will leave together from the Elysee Palace, and will go to the Stade de France stadium. After about one hour, the Romanian Prime Minister will participate in the Euro 2016’s opening ceremony and will watch the France-Romania football match.
This year’s European Football Championship is being organized under the threat of terrorism. A report of the Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany (Bundeskriminalamt – BKA) from May showed that the championship’s opening match between hosts France and Romania, as well as the final, could be targeted by terrorist attacks.
