Flextronics Romania opens new medical unit in Timisoara, estimates USD 600 mln yearly turnover
Electronics manufacturer Flextronics has recently expanded its site in Romania’s Timisoara with a new unit for medical operations, according to the company. The investment, covered by the company's own funds, amounts to EUR 3.6 million and covers the refurbishment of the infrastructure module and two “clean rooms” with an area of 1,300 sqm. Flextronics Romania has an annual turnover of around USD 600 million, according to the estimations made by Radenko Prjna, Vice President and General Manager of Flextronics Timisoara.
Around 350 people will work in the new unit and the growth rate in the medical segment in Timisoara should be around 40 percent in the next two years.
“The site in Timisoara is important for Flextronics’ development and I am sure it will remain important in the future,” said Bill Flaherty, President Flextronics Medical. The new medical unit in Romania is the most modern manufacturing unit of medical components in Eastern Europe, according to the company.
"Our investment reflects the expansion of the customer base in the medical segment, but also the growth opportunities in emerging markets for medical equipment and consumables," said Bill Flaherty.
Flextronics’ site in Timisoara was founded in 1998 and has a total of 42,000 sqm of manufacturing area. It has 2,600 employees and it serves four market segments, namely medical, automotive, industrial, and telecommunications and networking.
Flextronics Group has its headquarters in Singapore and has operations in 30 countries. The company posted incomes of USD 30 billion in 2010, and it counts about 200,000 employees worldwide. Flextronics’ total manufacturing area covers about 2.3 million sqm.
