Former Romanian energy minister, placed under judicial control on bail
Romania’s former energy minister Constantin Nita was placed yesterday under judicial control on bail.
The anticorruption prosecutors investigate him for influence peddling. The bail amounts to EUR 33,500.
In 2013, Nita allegedly promised a local investor to help get him get a contract with a town hall, in exchange for 5% of the contract’s value, according to the prosecutors. The former energy minister got the payments in two tranches. He first received EUR 30,000, then RON 303,000 (EUR 68,000). He used most of the money to finance various expenses of the county party organization.
The local investor denounced Nita.
