Former Romanian intelligence officer, held for spying on anticorruption head
Daniel Dragomir, a former officer of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), was detained yesterday by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), for his involvement in the Black Cube case.
According to the prosecutors, Dragomir got into contact with representatives of the Israeli company BlackCube aiming to denigrate the people he considered responsible for his indictment by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).
Dragomir allegedly paid the company BlackCube GBP 900,000 to spy on Laura Codruta Kovesi, the head of DNA. The operation for compromising Kovesi was called Tornado.
Under the direct request of Daniel Dragomir, the defendant David Geclowicz got into contact with several people close to Laura Codruta Kovesi. Using fraudulent means, Geclowicz managed to convince them to give him the contact details. Kovesi said that her family members and close friends received insistent phone calls for a day and a half. She mentioned that her email account hadn’t been attacked.
In January 2015 Daniel Dragomir was sent to court for influence peddling, money laundering, use of clasified information, and forgery.
