Free train rides for Romanian students who want to vote in parliamentary elections

07 December 2016

Romanian students who have the right to vote (namely those aged 18 and over) will be able to travel by train for free between December 8 and December 12, according to a statement from the railway passenger carrier CFR Calatori.

They can benefit from free trips between the cities where they are studying and their home cities, with Regio and InterRegio trains, second class.

The students can get the tickets from CFR offices based on their ID cards and documents certifying that they are students. They will have to take roundtrip tickets, with the return trip being scheduled for December 11 or December 12.

This measure could increase the number of young people who will vote in the parliamentary elections to be organized this Sunday in Romania, as those who want to vote can only do it in their home city or, if they are not there, in another city located in the same county.

For example, those who are living in Bucharest can only vote in the capital if their address of residence is here (proved with residence visa on the ID), reports local Digi24. If not, they will have to go their city of residence, or to another city located in the same county.
