How many Romanian men face hair loss problems?

23 October 2015

Hair loss affects 47% of the Romanian men while in Bucharest the percentage is over 50%. However, one in two men facing this problem are not willing to spend money to prevent it, according to a recent study conducted by GfK Romania for Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo.

Moreover, seven out of ten men say that hair loss doesn’t affect their social life.

When it comes to what causes hair loss, most men blame it on the stress. They believe that the job and the current economic conditions are the main stress factors.

Married men are the most stressed, the study shows.  Almost half of them said that they are stressed often or most of the time. Also, one in five married men face serious hair loss problems, or is nearly bald.

In Bucharest, 55% of men face hair loss problems and are more worried about this aspect than those living in other big cities in Romania. More than half of those living in Romania’s capital say that they have been facing high levels of stress.

Most Romanian men don’t know the real causes of hair loss, according to the study. Popular beliefs are still widespread among Romania men, such as the one according to which wearing a hat too often leads to hair loss (44% of respondents believe this). Only 32% of them consider that this problem appears due to genetic causes.

Although hair loss often appears due to genetic causes, the process can be influenced by other factors such as stress, weight loss, medication, and vitamin D deficiency, according to doctor Adolf Klenk, the head of Dr. Wolff Research in Germany, the company that produces Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo.

Caffeine is the active ingredient in the fight against hair loss. However, the study shows that 50% of respondents see caffeine as a main source of additional energy for the organism, and only 7% know that it can also have a role in stimulating the cells.
