Romanian IT&C producer Evolio has launched x-Watch, a smartwatch that the user can connect to his smartphone, no matter the operating system (iOS or Android). This is the first smartwatch launched under a Romanian brand.

The x-Watch can be used for phone calls or text messages, but it also monitors physical effort and fitness activities. The smartwatch also has a digital organizer with a ‘reminder’ function and an anti-theft feature which tells the user when he got more than 15 m away from the smartphone to which the watch is connected. It has an autonomy of 2 to 5 days and a weight of 50 grams.

The watch has a quite low price compared to other such devices on the market. Its recommended sale price is RON 399 (some EUR 90), but those interested can buy it for RON 249 (EUR 56) in the pre-order period (starting October 1).

“The world market of portable devices will triple in the next five years, from USD 10 billion in 2015, to USD 30 billion in 2020, according to recent estimates. In Romania, the smartwatch market is estimated at some EUR 5 million in 2015, and is expected to exceed EUR 10 million in 2016,” said Liviu Nistoran, CEO & Founder Evolio Romania.

Evolio was launched in 2007 by Televoice Romania. The company produces and sells smartphones, tablets, eBooks, notebooks, GPS equipment, video cameras, and smartphones under the Evolio brand.

Evolio sold over 55,000 smartphones and some 10,000 tablets in Romania, in the first eight months of this year, according to Nistoran, writes Ziarul Financiar. The company's business went up by 30% compared to the first eight months of 2014, to EUR 3.4 million.
