Music festival brings 120,000 people to castle in central Romania

19 July 2016

More than 120,000 people gathered at the Banffy Castle in Bontida, Cluj county at the end of last week, for one of the largest music festivals in Romania – Electric Castle.

The four-day festival ended on July 17. Its lineup included well-known bands and artists such as Bring Me The Horizon, Sigur Ros, Bastille, Skrillex, and Slow Magic.

The people defied the torrential rains and the mud just to see their favorite artists and dance on their famous hits. The peak was registered on Saturday, July 16 when 30,000 people stood in the rain to listen to American DJ Skrillex, reports local Digi24. Bastille, God is an Astronaut, Bring Me The Horizon and Gorgon City also gathered a crowd of some 30,000 people on Sunday.

This year’s edition of Electric Castle took place between July 14 and July 17. More than 200 artists and bands from Romania and abroad performed on the festival’s eight stages.

Last year, Electric Castle drew almost 100,000 people to the village of Bontida near Cluj-Napoca.
