Norway grants EUR 26 mln for 50 green projects in Romania

Norway has awarded grants worth EUR 26 million to 50 local companies and NGOs within the 2009-2014 financing programme.

The funds were awarded for green investments, which created over 200 permanent jobs.

20 of the projects represent investments in green technologies, eco-innovative products and services. 16 projects aim to reuse waste, increase the energy efficiency, and use renewable resources in businesses. The other 14 projects try to innovate and develop the entrepreneurship spirit.

The projects were part of the “Green Innovation in the industry in Romania” Program carried out between March 2013 and April this year. The program’s total value amounted to EUR 54 million, EUR 28 million of which represented private co-financing whereas EUR 26 million were Norwegian grants.

30 projects received between EUR 200,000 and EUR 1.5 million whereas the other 20 were financed with amounts between EUR 50,000-200,000.

Norway and Romania are currently negotiations a new financing agreement for the 2014-2021 period.
