The largest oil & gas company in Romania OMV Petrom will open this week, in partnership with energy company Electrica, the first fast-charging station for electric cars.

It is the first step of OMV Petrom in the field of electric mobility. The station is part of the “pilot project in the field of electromobility initiated by Electrica and OMV Petrom Marketing”, the two companies announced at the end of last week, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

OMV Petrom Marketing is in charge of managing the Petrom and OMV fuel stations.

Hungarian oil group Mol has also announced that it planned to set up a network of charging points for electric cars in Romania. German retailer Kaufland has already opened several such charging stations in some of its stores, in partnership with Austrian group Renovatio.

According to the PSD governing program, Romania should have at least 20,000 charging point locations for electric vehicles by January 1, 2020. Until now, most of these charging points have been set up by private companies, and not public institutions.
