Online payment processor PayU Romania estimates a 60% increase in the online payments during this year's edition of the Black Friday shopping event, compared to the last year.

A quarter of the total Black Friday orders will be paid online, according to the company’s estimates. The value of the online payments could thus reach about RON 40 million (EUR 8.8 million), said PayU Romania director Marius Costin.

The consumers’ trust in online payments can build up through a long-term educational campaign, he added. The company has continued its investments in the platform this year to keep up with the increased activity.

"Tests have shown us that we are ready to support more than 3,000 transactions per minute,” said Alin Breaban, Software Development Manager Technology Center PayU Group.

Most online stores in Romania will hold their Black Friday sales event on November 18 this year.
