PM: Romania aims to become OECD member
Romania wants to become a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos told the organization’s council members on Thursday, in Paris.
He attended a special OECD council reunion dedicated to Romania.
“We are more active in the OECD working groups because we want to become members of this organization. It’s not just the Government’s objective, it’s de country’s objective,” Ciolos said.
“We have made the necessary steps in the reform process and our macroeconomic indicators look good. We know the high standards this organization promotes and joining it would allow us to reach and keep these economic and social development standards on the long term,” the Romanian Prime Minister said.
He added that Romania’s contribution to OECD would be a more active role in maintaining the economic stability in Eastern Europe, a role the country was willing to take.
OECD’s declared mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The organization was established in 1961 and has 34 member countries.
