PM visits Canada, will talk about lifting visas for Romanians
Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos makes a work visit in Canada, where he will meet Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and other high Canadian officials today.
One of the major objectives of this visit is to discuss the problem of the visas for Romanian citizens, according to a press release of the Government.
“The dialogue on visa liberalization is relevant from the perspective of both the EU- Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement and especially the preparation of the signing, implementation and ratification of the EU - Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) in the coming months,” reads the Government’s press release.
Romania and Bulgaria are the only EU member states for which Canada maintained the visa requirements. Romania lifted the short-stay visa requirements for Canadian citizens, in 2012, complying with EU regulations in the field.
The Romanian PM’s visit marks the first Romanian-Canadian bilateral meeting at the level of Prime Minister over the last ten years.
