President: Romania should have a political cabinet after elections

13 September 2016

A political government will be formed after the parliamentary elections, said Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. The technocrat government was only a temporary solution, he added.

The president also said that it wouldn’t be wrong if any of the current ministers of the Ciolos cabinet decided to run for office.

“A country needs to have a political government, it’s as simple as that,” Iohannis said, reports local Digi24.

He also said that it was necessary for political parties to open up and allow new people in.

The EU Funds Minister Cristian Ghinea and the Health Minister Vlad Voiculescu said that they were considering running in the parliamentary elections in December. Economy Minister Costin Borc may also be pondering the option, according to rumours.

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said that he wouldn’t run in the elections but that he didn’t mind if several ministers decided to do that. However, any minister who decides to run in the elections must resign from his cabinet, Ciolos has decided.
