The prosecutors have been investigating Adamescu for money laundering, complicity to abuse in service, and abuse in service.
The deeds were related to the bankruptcy of one of the largest Romanian insurers, Astra Asigurari. Adamescu’s mismanagement of the company between 2011 and 2013 allegedly caused damages worth some EUR 180 million.
The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has been investigating Adamescu under judicial control, after he covered a EUR 9 million bail.
