ProSiebenSat.1 sells Romanian radios, TV stations to Greek Antenna Group and local media owner

06 January 2014

Media group ProSiebenSat.1 has sold all its assets in Romania, choosing to hand over one TV station and four radio stations to new market entrant, Greek Antenna Group.

Antenna Group, which is committed to expanding its presence in South East Europe, has bought Kiss TV, Kiss FM, Magic FM, One FM and Rock FM.

ProSiebenSat.1 also sold generalist TV station Prima TV to Romanian media businessman Cristian Burci, the founder of the TV station. The sale prices were not disclosed. Burci launched Prima TV in 1997, and partially sold it to SBS in 2000, followed by a complete sale in 2005. Burci currently owns the newspapers Click! And Adevarul.

“Antenna Group is committed to expanding its presence in South East Europe. This is the latest stage in our growth strategy," said Theo Kyriakou, the CEO of Antenna Group.

The sale was part of a wider sale strategy for Eastern Europe, in which ProSiebenSat.1 also sold its Hungarian TV stations to the current management team. ProSiebenSat.1 announced its intention to sell its Eastern European TV and radio holdings when it sold its Northern European portfolio in December 2012, in order to concentrate on the expansion of its German-speaking television and digital business.

Prior to this, the German group sold its Northern European business at the end of 2012.

Antenna Group claims to be the worlds largest Greek media group, reaching Greek-speaking audiences in all continents. The group entered the Balkans region with the purchase of Nova Televisia in Bulgaria in 2000, which it later sold to Modern Times Group in 20008, for EUR 628 million. The group was founded in 1989 and runs activities in audiovisual, print and online.
