Romanian private medical care provider Regina Maria, founded by Dr. Wargha Enayati and his wife, Mitra Enayati, opened the first free clinic in Bucharest. The clinic, located in Baba Novac/Dristor area, addresses all social cases, including the homeless in Bucharest, and the uninsured. There are about 2,400 homeless people in Bucharest, according to Regina Maria.

Regina Maria social clinic will be opened from Monday to Friday and will provide medical services such as internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, surgery and ultrasound. The clinic will operate with a team of permanent doctors, with the help of many volunteers.

“A clinic designed specifically to help socially disadvantaged people, is my dream for a long time”, said Wargha Enayati, Regina Maria foundation’s cofounder.

“The city hall will always support such projects. It is an initiative that deserves my respect”, said Sorin Oprescu, the Mayor of Bucharest. In the future, another two or three social clinics are planned to be opened in Bucharest, he added.

Centrul Medical Unirea and the recently acquired Euroclinic have together re-branded under the name Regina Maria and plan to invest EUR 12 million in opening clinics in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta and Bacau, as well as a private hospital in the Baneasa area of Bucharest. Regina Maria (the former CMU), controlled by investment fund Advent International, took over Euroclinic from Eureko last year. The chain has six hospitals and over 20 polyclinics countrywide, working with 1,000 doctors.
