Romania has over 60,000 legal immigrants from outside the EU
Romania has over 60,000 legal immigrants that come from states outside the European Union, but only a small part of them have moved to Romania for work, according to a study carried out by the Centre for Research and Documentation in Integrating Immigrants.
“The number of immigrants in Romania is very low, about 0.3% of the general population,” according to the study, reports Ziarul Financiar.
Less than 10% of them have jobs. The foreigners are thus not visible in the labor market, and the authorities don’t make efforts to adapt the laws for them, the study shows.
Most of the migrants have come to Romania for family reunification. The second most important reason are studies.
Most of the immigrants from outside the EU come from the Republic of Moldova, namely almost 9,500 people. The ranking also includes people from Turkey (8,800), China (7,500), Syria (4,500), Israel (2,600), Iraq (2,300), or the U.S. (2,100).
