Romania, Bulgaria to import bison from Poland
Romania and Bulgaria are to import bison from Poland, according to Polish environment minister Jan Szyszko.
While Romania is interested in breeding the animal, Bulgaria has requested three male and three female bison, reports Thenews.pl.
“The bison is a European species which used to roam throughout nearly all of Europe, but which was eliminated from the western parts, depending on the region, some 300, 200 or 100 years ago,” Szyszko said.
In Romania, bison can be found in the Tarcu Mountains, where Rewilding Europe and WWF Romania have released dozens of such animals in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Last summer, ten European bison were brought to Tarcu Mountains, in the Southern Carpathians area.
