Romania could restrict land purchase by foreigners
The current law on the sale of agricultural land in Romania could be changed so that foreigners wouldn’t be able to buy land so easily, according to agriculture minister Achim Irimescu.
“There is a very big pressure from the Romanian farmers,” said Irimescu, reports local Agerpres.
Foreign investors have acquired large plots. “We will introduce filters to ensure that not everybody has access to anything and in any terms,” the minister added.
The decision was taken following a talk with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos. The Ministry will complete a new draft law in about two weeks, Irimescu said.
