Romanian MP wants two more tests at driver license exam
Romanian MP Florin Gheorghe wants to add two more tests to the driver license exam so that the new drivers would be better prepared and cause fewer accidents.
“I’ve proposed four tests for obtaining the driver license, instead of two as it is now. Thus, to get the driver license, not only the theory test would be compulsory but also three practical tests: the driving test in the polygon, the practical road test in the city, and the practical test at night,” Gheorghe said in a statement cited by local Mediafax.
With these new rules, the MP would want to decrease the number of accidents that occur because of the drivers’ poor training, a situation that has been determined by the easier driver license exams.
“The conditions and ways of instructing and testing new drivers have eased so much in the last 26 years that it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that the examination part is no longer required, and the license is obtained easier than a bus ticket, perhaps via text message,” Florin Gheorghe said.
At present, a person who wants to get a driver license in Romania must be aged over 18. He must complete a driving school and then pass a two-stage exam made of a theory test and a road test.
There have been many cases in recent years in which the policemen in charge of conducting the examination were charged with corruption as they would take money from the candidates to pass them even if they did poorly at the exam.
