Călin Peter Netzer is a new name on the Romanian cinema scene, but his film Child's Pose/Pozitia Copilului snatched the Berlin Film Festival award in 2013.

The film managed to get the highest box office gains in Romania and the highest number of viewers, exceeding another popular one, the 2002 production of Filantropica, directed by Nae Caranfil.

Netzer was born in 1975 in Botosani, Northern Romania. He emigrated with his family to Germany when he was 8, and returned to Romania after the fall of communism in 1989.

His debut feature length film is Maria, from 2003. He also directed Medal of Honor in 2009.
