Romania, sixth timber supplier for IKEA

Romania has supplied 6.1% of the timber used in furniture production by the Swedish company IKEA between the beginning of September last year and end-August this year.

The country, which is currently the sixth supplier for the Swedish retailer, may provide more wood in the next years after IKEA has bought 33,600 hectares of woodland in Romania this year.

Poland is currently IKEA’s largest wood supplier, with 25.5%, followed by Lithuania with 7.3%, Russia with 6.9% or Sweden with 6.3%.

The company used 16.2 million cubic meters of wood in the year ended August 31, 2015, up by 4% compared to the previous year.
