Romanian Dacia employees get RON 200 raise after negotiations

02 March 2017

The conflict between the unions and the management of the Romanian car producer Dacia ended in the last round of negotiations when the two sides agreed that employees would get a raise of RON 200 (EUR 44.2) plus other benefits, such as food vouchers and an annual bonus.

At the beginning of the conflict, the unions demanded a wage increase of RON 450 (EUR 100) whereas the Dacia management offered only RON 90 (EUR 20).

Before the last round of negotiations, union representatives told Profit.ro that the risk of starting a general strike was 70%.

Ion Iordache, vice-leader of the Dacia union, was happy with the result. The management accepted a raise of RON 200, instead of RON 90, plus other benefits. Besides that, employees will also get an annual bonus of RON 1,450 (EUR 320). The value of the food vouchers Dacia employees get will also increase from RON 12 to RON 15 (EUR 3.3) starting October.

The gross average salary of an operator working for Dacia reached RON 5,000 (EUR 1,100) in 2016, a level that is comparable to the average salaries in countries such as Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, and Slovakia, according to Dacia.
