Romanian tennis players Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau reached the final of the men’s doubles tennis competition at the Rio Olympics. They have thus secured the first Olympic medal ever for Romanian tennis and the second medal for Romania at the Rio Olympics.

Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau beat American duo Jack Sock/Steve Johnson in the semifinals after two sets ended 6-3, 7-5. They controlled the match from start to finish.

Mergea and Tecau will face in the final the winners of the match between Spanish duo Marc Lopez/Rafael Nadal and Canadian pair Vasek Pospisil/Daniel Nestor.
