Romanian gymnast Catalina Ponor wins two gold medals at Baku World Cup

Romania’s triple Olympic gold medalist Catalina Ponor won on Sunday the gold medals at the balance beam and floor events of the World Cup organized in Baku.

In the floor event, Ponor won the gold medal with 13.433 (13.233 in qualifications), thus surpassing Australian Emily Little – 13.400 and Azeri Marina Nekrasova – 12.833.

Catalina Ponor also won the final of the balance beam event with 13.833 (14.233 in qualifications). Greek Vasiliki Millousi ranked second with 13.633, followed by Austrian Emily Little – 13.433.

Seven gymnasts represented Romania at the World Cup in Baku, namely Catalina Ponor and Anamaria Ocolisan in women’s competition, and Cristian Bataga, Vlad Cotuna, Adelin Kotrong, Laurentiu Nistor and Andrei Ursache in men’s competition.

Ponor, who started gymnastics when she was 4, holds five Olympic medals: three gold medals won at the 2004 Olympics and two medals (silver and bronze) at the 2012 Olympics.
