Romanian hacker Guccifer to spend four years in U.S. prison
A U.S. federal court sentenced Romanian hacker Guccifer to 52 months in prison, reports the international media.
Guccifer, on his real name Marcel Lazar, has been accused of breaking into computer accounts of the Bush family, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and others. At the end of May this year, he had pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer and one count of aggravated identity theft.
The Romanian admitted to hacking into the computers and social media accounts of some 100 Americans. In early-May, he claimed that he had also hacked into the personal email server of former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. However, FBI director James Comey contradicted Guccifer in July.
The Romanian hacker was extradited to the US earlier this year, following a ruling of Romania's High Court of Cassation and Justice.
He was also convicted to prison in Romania for hacking into the email accounts of several local personalities.
