Romanian Orthodox Church records profit of EUR 3.7 mln

The Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) posted a profit of EUR 3.7 million last year. The profit was made from the sale of candles, icons, donations, weddings or travels, according to the balance sheets submitted at the Finance Ministry, cited by local Capital.ro.

Basilica Travel, which is the Church’s agency tourism, posted a turnover of EUR 926,000 and a net profit of EUR 333,000, double compared to 2014.

Last year, the Romanian Patriarchy, the leading structure of the Orthodox Church, announced a profit of EUR 577,000, up 84.4% year-on-year. The most profitable diocese is the Mitropoly of Moldova and Bucovina, with a profit of EUR 644,000.

The Bucharest diocese came next, with a profit of EUR 511,000, followed by the diocese of Arges and Muscel, with a profit of EUR 400,000, mostly from donations.
