Romanian President lays wreath at Arlington National Cemetery
Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis laid a flower wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington. The President is currently in an official visit to the US, where he will meet President Donald Trump.
President Iohannis was greeted with a 21-gun salute and the Honor Guard, the highest ceremonial for a head of state. He was led to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Major General Michael Howard of Washington, District of Columbia.
The laying of the wreath represented an “homage to the memory and heroism of US military engaged in supporting, with the price of their life, the peace, liberty and democracy in Europe and in the entire world,” according to the Romanian Presidency.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington was erected in 1921 to pay homage to unidentified US military who died in war. It has sections for military who died in the First and Second World War, in the Korean War or the Vietnam War.
