Romanian retailer eMAG partners with E.On to sell cheaper electricity on Black Friday

15 November 2016

The largest Romanian online retailer eMAG will have an offer in partnership with the energy provider E.On for the Black Friday shopping event.

Clients who sign a 12-month electricity supply contract with E.On, via the eMAG online platform, won’t have to pay the bill for six months. The offer is limited to 1,000 contracts and is destined only for individuals. The electricity price is RON 0.19 per kWh.

eMAG, which brought the Black Friday shopping event in Romania in 2011, estimates that its Black Friday sales will reach RON 250 million (EUR 55.3 million) on Friday, November 18, when the event is scheduled to take place. Last year, eMAG had sales of RON 200 million on Black Friday, as it even sold gold, cars, and tractors, in partnership with local banks and dealers.

The retailer will have one million products with discounts ranging from 30% to 80% on this year’s Black Friday. The total discounts amount to EUR 35 million, said Iulian Stanciu, CEO of Dante International, the company that owns the eMAG brand. Most retailers that use eMAG’s Marketplace platform will also have discounts on that day.

Since 2011, when eMAG organized the first Black Friday in Romania, many local retailers have joined this event. The overall Black Friday orders are expected to reach RON 1 billion (EUR 220 million) this year, according to Stanciu.
