Romanian Senate rejects new tax for supermarkets

15 September 2016

Romania’s Senate rejected yesterday several proposals for amending the Fiscal Code.

The rejected amendments included the taxation of supermarkets based on their turnover, reports local Profit.ro.

The Senate also dismissed the proposal to exempt people aged under 25 from paying taxes on their wages and to exempt companies that hire women with children under seven for part-time jobs from paying corporate income tax up to EUR 30,000.

The projects will also be debated in the Chamber of Deputies, which has the final say. The Government, which only has an advisory opinion, opposes all these measures.
