Parliamentary elections: Romanians living abroad can find polling stations on Google Maps

21 November 2016

Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has developed an interactive map available on the Google Maps platform via which Romanians living abroad can find where the polling stations are located.

Thus, the Romanians living outside Romania can now find the polling stations’ addresses more quickly. The map can be found here.

A total of 417 polling stations were organized abroad for the parliamentary elections to take place on December 11, some 111 more than at the parliamentary elections held in 2012, and 123 more than at the presidential elections in 2014.

The electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections kicked off on November 11, with some 6,500 candidates at the starting line. An important difference from the 2012 elections is that the candidates are no longer allowed to give away money or goods to potential voters to convince them to give their votes to a certain list of candidates, or to a certain candidate. Those who don’t respect the law face prison sentences between six months and three years.

The new Parliament will be made of 466 MPs, down from 588 in 2012. Some 18.9 million Romanians have the right to vote on December 11.

Survey ordered by the liberals shows the social democrats in the lead for parliamentary elections
