Romania’s consumer protection authority fines Robbie Williams concert organizers
Romania’s National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) has decided to fine the two companies that organized the Robbie Williams concert in Bucharest at the beginning of July for incorrect behavior towards their clients, according to an ANPC press release.
The fine is RON 10,000 (some EUR 2,250) while the Robbie Williams concert was a multi-million euros event.
Romanian companies East European Production and D&D East Entertainment organized the event.
The concert’s organizers haven’t set up enough selling points for drinks and the people who went to the concert had to stay in line for a minimum 45 minutes to get water, juice or beer during the event. The spectators were forbidden to bring any water bottles or other refreshments with them into the concert venue and had no other alternative to hydrate themselves. The weather was very hot in the day of the concert.
Some 300 people of the 60,000 estimated to have attended the event, filed complaints between July 19 and July 23 related to the insufficient selling points. They said they had to wait for at least 45 minutes to buy drinks after queuing to get the electronic cards needed to pay for the drinks, as the selling points didn’t accept cash.
According to the consumer protection authority, the organizing companies didn’t set up enough selling points to ensure civilized access to all the spectators they expected at the concert. “This was a mockery at consumers,” said Marius Alexandru Dunca, the authority’s president.
