Where can you find the fastest internet connections in Romania?

The average download speed was 53.22 Mbps in Romania in 2015, in the case of fixed Internet connections, and 19.22 Mbps for mobile Internet, according to a report from Romania’s telecom regulator ANCOM.

The results were provided by Netograf.ro, ANCOM’s app that tests and monitors Internet services’ quality.

The highest average download speed for fixed Internet connections was registered in Bucharest – 69.16 Mbps, followed by counties such as Ilfov – 67.44 Mbps, Dolj – 56.42 Mbps, Constanta – 56.03 Mbps, and Sibiu – 55.89 Mbps. On the other hand, the lowest speeds were reported in Maramures county – 28.33 Mbps, Satu Mare county – 30.71 Mbps, and Botosani county – 30.74 Mbps.

In terms of mobile Internet connections, Ilfov county ranks first with an average speed of 37.16 Mbps, followed by Bucharest with 25.59 Mbps. Meanwhile, Dolj, Timis, Arad, Cluj, Brasov, Bacau, and Iasi counties had average speeds between 11 and 20 Mbps. In the rest of the counties, the speeds were below 10 Mbps. (See the full map below)

Ilfov county had the highest average upload speed for fixed Internet connections – 64.24 Mbps, followed by Bucharest – 60.85, and Sibiu county – 62.31. Botosani was at the other end of the ranking, with and average upload speed of just 25.10 Mbps.

In terms of mobile Internet connections, the highest upload speeds were recorded in Ilfov county – 12.37 Mbps and Bucharest – 10.96 Mbps, while the lowest speed was registered in Dambovita – 1.39 Mbps.

The fixed and mobile Internet statistics for 2015 were generated by Netograf.ro based on tests carried out by more than 170,000 users, out of which 135,000 were validated and used for the official data.
