Romania’s online shopping reaches EUR 5 mln per day
The value of online shopping exceeded the threshold of EUR 1.8 billion last year, up 30% compared to 2015.
This means that Romanians spent some EUR 5 million per day for online shopping, according to a study published by GPeC yesterday.
The EUR 1.8 billion value includes only tangible products sold online, but doesn’t include services, utility payment, plane tickets, tickets to shows or events, hotel reservations, holidays and trips.
According to statistics, Romania had some 11.2 million Internet users last year. The Internet penetration rate increased from 56% in 2015 to 58% in 2016.
Purchases made from mobile phones have reached 35-40% of all online purchases. The penetration rate of smartphones went up from 50% in 2015 to 70% in 2016.
