Romania’s President will announce new PM after Christmas
Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday that he would announce the name of the new Prime Minister after Christmas.
Iohannis said he received two Prime Minister proposals: Sevil Shhaideh, supported by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), and Eugen Tomac, supported by former President Traian Basescu’s Popular Movement Party (PMP).
He also took notice of the new majority coalition in the Parliament made of PSD and ALDE and supported by the Democrat Magyar Union (UDMR).
He said he would have talks on these matters in the following days and make a Prime Minister nomination after Christmas.
PSD leader Liviu Dragnea said he was sorry that President Iohannis didn’t make the nomination on Thursday, after completing the talks with the political parties. “Each with his rhythm. He probably wants to have further talks with Mrs. Shhaideh,” Dragnea said.
He added that the Government structure has already been finalized and that the Parliament was ready to vote on the new cabinet on Friday or even on Saturday (Christmas Eve).
