Romania's tourism minister wants to reduce VAT for tourism packages to 9%

03 April 2017

Romanian tourism minister Mircea Titus Dobre said that he would submit today to the Finance Ministry the documents that back his proposal to reduce the VAT rate for the products sold by tourism agencies from 19% to 9%.

He will then submit the documents to the European Commission, reports local Wall-street.ro.

“It will be a pretty long way, hopefully not too difficult, but I do hope to have a good result at the end,” the minister said.

In the last year, the employers in the tourism sector have asked the Government to increase the budget destined for Romania’s tourism promotion abroad from EUR 2 million to minimum EUR 10 million. They have also requested a drop in the VAT rate to 9% for all the products sold by tourism agencies.
