Sculpture by Romanian Constantin Brancusi sells in New York for over USD 9 mln
One of the first versions of Constantin Brancusi’s La Muse Endormie I (The Sleeping Muse) sold on May 14 in an auction in New York for USD 9.12 million.
The work will remain in a private American collection, reports local Mediafax. The buyer, Kim Heirston, is the owner of a consulting firm active on the private art market.
The auctioned price stays wihin the evaluation done by Christie’s, which had placed the value of the work of art between USD 8 million and USD 12 million.
La Muse Endormie I is a plaster sculpture, portraying a female head with her eyes closed. Brancusi made this artwork when he was an independent artist in Paris.
The impressionist and modern evening auction ended with total sales of USD 202.6 million.
